Leica and Xiaomi collaborate to give Xiaomi’s smartphones DSLR-like camera capabilities.

Smartphone cameras have advanced significantly. Mobile photography has advanced significantly over the past few years, rising from 8-megapixel to 16-megapixel and now up to a 200-megapixel camera sensor. A 200-megapixel camera from Sony that has been optimised by Samsung is included in the newest flagships from Samsung, the Galaxy S23 series. The Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi has now announced a long-term relationship with Leica Camera with the objective of elevating smartphone photography to a new level.

The alliance with Leica has as its goal giving mobile phones access to DSLR-like camera technology. The Xiaomi 12S Ultra, which was introduced last year, is the first Xiaomi phone designed under the strategic collaboration. The next product developed under the collaboration is the Xiaomi 13 Pro. The smartphone will become officially available worldwide and in India on February 26. This has been confirmed by the company. The future flagship Xiaomi phone is still largely unknown.

Leica and Xiaomi are working together to “co-develop breakthrough solutions in the smartphone camera module area as well as the enhancement of optical performance,” according to Xiaomi. Both Xiaomi and Leica assert that they will “effectively communicate with their customers across numerous languages, cultures, channels, and devices” and that the “customer journey” is their only point of concentration.

Recently, India Today Tech had the opportunity to examine Xiaomi’s concept phone, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, which came with a removable lens from Leica. The high-end cameras and lenses are the company’s specialty, and it is situated in Germany. With a long-term strategic alliance with Xiaomi, the company is now aiming to give smartphones DSLR-level photographic skills.

The phone maker stated at the recent Xiaomi-Leica presentation in New Delhi that the goal is to incorporate Leica’s photographic capabilities into some of the company’s upcoming products. According to reports, future Xiaomi flagship smartphones would include improved optical engineering, design, imaging software, and photography thanks to the relationship with Leica.
