How Apple’s Vision Pro headset will help surgeons for medical purposes

Apple unveiled its first mixed reality headset, the Vision Pro, at its annual developer conference, WWDC 2023. The AR/VR device will not only help users view content in a more immersive way, but also support medical staff in their work. Apple’s mixed reality headset has the potential to help surgeons by providing critical data during surgical practice. How Apple Vision Pro will help surgeons

In an interview with WMTV8, US surgeon Dr. Rafael Grossmann suggested doctors use Apple’s Vision Pro headset. Grossmann, a general surgeon with expertise in robotic surgery, was also the first doctor to live stream an operation using Google Glass. He thinks that Apple Vision Pro can be of great help to surgeons in the process of surgery when the information is very important to the survival of the patient.

“In the operating room, you collect mixed reality data that helps you perform the procedure synchronously, in real time,” explains Grossmann of the mixed reality technology he is currently using.
The surgeon further noted that with this headset, doctors will not need to turn their heads to look at the computer screen. With spatial computing, the screen can be anywhere in the room. In the case of surgery, the monitor can be placed in the eye line of the wearer. Other use cases for Apple Vision Pro
Grossmann suggested that besides surgeries, doctors could use Apple’s headphones in other ways. He noted that Vision Pro could also provide more connections between doctors and patients. For example, a headset might include a digital assistant that allows doctors to manage basic tasks like taking notes or looking up information in a patient record. Digital assistants can be powered by powerful artificial intelligence, such as ChatGPT.

“I think a great language model – such as ChatGPT or equivalent – would really make that possible and, once again, give us the superpower to be healers for the people we need to be,” added Grossmann.
