Sony may soon launch the WF-1000XM5, its next generation of wireless stereo (TWS) headphones. The successor to the WF-1000XM4, the upcoming headset has been leaked on the internet, providing more details about the headset. According to images shared by Dutch publication WinFuture, the XM5 headphones appear to be smaller and lighter than the XM4. According to a recent filing with the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the new headphones feature tactile dots and microphone holes. They should have a touch surface to control audio playback.

Unlike the matte finish of the XM4, the XM5 headphones have a glossy plastic design. However, the leaked images show that the touch sensing areas on each earbud still have a matte finish. Sony also seems to have made some changes to the charging case of the headphones. They’ve reduced the contacts from three to two, and the case now has a more rounded shape. The LED indicator has also been changed from a bar to a small dot on the front.

The headset may have a larger battery capacity or faster charging because the power specification has been updated to 5V=230mAh, from 5V=140mAh on the WF-1000XM4. The Sony WF-100XM5 will also come with multipoint support, which was also added to the previous model, the WF-1000XM4, after its release. The headphones could also support wireless charging and offer up to 24 hours of battery life, though it’s unclear if that includes noise cancellation. Furthermore, the earphones can provide an hour of listening time with just three minutes of charging. It’s unclear when Sony will launch the WF-1000XM5, but based on the leaks, it looks like the launch is imminent.
