Coming soon to WhatsApp: Android transfer, status reports, and more

WhatsApp is reportedly working on a slew of new features to enhance the user interface and privacy. The Android to iOS transfer feature was introduced by the Meta-owned app last year, and it is now rumoured that another transfer feature, which would abolish dependence on Google Drive, is being developed. Additionally, WhatsApp will soon enable users to report status that contains anything that is against the platform’s rules. Additionally, there is something in the works for users who wish to store messages that vanish, and there is good news for those who want to use WhatsApp but are allowed to do so despite the app’s censorship by the government.

Let’s take a closer look at every feature that WhatsApp is currently working on and planning to deploy in upcoming versions.

Android WhatsApp transfer

According to a report from WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on a feature that would let users move their chat history and other data between Android devices. Users can still upload their data using Google Drive backup, but the new upgrade is supposed to do away with the need for outside applications. By just scanning a QR code, users will be able to switch to a new Android device.

The feature is now being created. But once it’s available, users can do so by going to WhatsApp Settings > Chats > Chat transfer to Android, scanning the QR code, and then following the on-screen instructions.

status update

WhatsApp users are currently able to report violations of the platform’s rules, message contacts, and receive media. But soon, users will be able to report statuses that contain objectionable information, such as abuse or hate speech, on the Meta-owned network.

Save messages that vanish

The company is also developing a function that will let users save significant communications in a chat window that will vanish as time passes. Users will be able to bookmark and preserve any specific message from fading messages using the new function, Kept messages, so that it won’t be automatically wiped along with other messages on a predetermined timer. The saved message will be visible to every conversation participant. WhatsApp users can “un-keep” a message at any moment to remove it from the chat, though.

Use a proxy to connect to WhatsApp.

Due to official censorship regulations, the instant messaging software WhatsApp is restricted in several nations. The programme cannot be downloaded straight from the Apple App Store or Google Play store. Nevertheless, the platform is introducing proxy functionality for WhatsApp users everywhere. People from Iran and other nations will be able to use the app freely and secretly and communicate freely and privately.

According to a blog post by WhatsApp, “using a proxy enables you to connect to WhatsApp through servers set up by volunteers and organisations throughout the world dedicated to helping people communicate freely.”

The proxy feature is currently available with the latest updates of WhatsApp beta for Android, iOS, and Desktop. A domain name (or subdomain) pointing to the server’s IP address and a server with ports 80, 443 or 5222 open can be used to set up a proxy.
