The freshly released Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 5G has a direct rival in the Oppo A78 5G, which was introduced in India. According to Oppo, its new smartphone is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 700 SoC and supports the Airtel, Jio, and 5G networks. Similar to the Realme 10 Pro, the Oppo A78 5G has two sizable vertically aligned cutouts on the rear that house dual cameras. To appear more contemporary, the back panel features a shiny stripe. Additionally, the phone is available in Black and Blue.

The Oppo A78 5G costs Rs 18,999 for 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage on its own. On January 23, it will go on sale in India, although the specifics of the launch promotion are still unknown. Both Amazon India and the official channels of Oppo India will offer it for sale.
In contrast, the Redmi Note 12 5G carries a starting price tag of Rs 17,999 for the base 4GB RAM and 128GB storage option. Its top variant, with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, costs Rs 19,999.
Specifications for the Oppo A78 5G
The 6.5-inch LCD screen on the Oppo A78 5G has a 90Hz refresh rate, an average brightness of 480 nits, and a 96% colour gamut. Although the display has an HD+ (1612 x 720) resolution, there are large bezels that some users can find bothersome.
The Oppo A78 5G is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 700 5G SoC, which has emerged as a go-to option for smartphone manufacturers looking to offer 5G on a budget. The chipset includes 128GB of storage and 8GB of RAM. The device is compatible with extended RAM technology, which uses unused storage to enhance memory. Additionally, the Oppo A78 5G offers additional storage with a microSD card slot.
The back of the device has two cameras, as previously reported. A 50-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture and a 2-megapixel depth camera are also part of the rear camera system. Sadly, the ultra-wide camera is absent, as many OEMs have begun to do with their low-cost smartphones.
An 8-megapixel camera is housed in the waterdrop-shaped notch on the front panel. Android 13-based ColorOS 13 is preinstalled on the Oppo A78 5G right out of the box.
The smartphone also has dual speakers, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, a 5,000mAh battery, and 33W rapid charging. Both a charger and a Type-C charging cable are included in the package. An additional transparent silicone case for the smartphone is included in the package to increase its durability.
