Shubman Gill felt let down after scoring 116 against Sri Lanka in the third One-Day International: could have delved farther

On Sunday, January 16 at the Greenfield Stadium in Trivandrum, Shubman Gill was one of India’s standout players in the third One-Day International match against Sri Lanka.

The 23-year-old scored 116 runs off 97 balls with 14 fours and two sixes after reaching his second ODI century. His time in the middle, though, was short-lived when Kasun Rajitha rattled his woodwork in the 34th over of the Indian batting order.

The Fazilka-born Gill claimed he lost out on the opportunity to amass a higher total on Trivandrum’s gorgeous batting surface. The batsman was discouraged as well for failing to make his starts in the games in Guwahati and Kolkata count.

When I was dismissed in the first ODI, it was disappointing. In that game, I tried to play big, but I was unsuccessful. We didn’t have that many runs to score in Kolkata either. After I was eliminated from that game, I was also disappointed.

After Rohit Sharma became the first Indian wicket to go down, Gill and Virat Kohli put on 131 runs for the second wicket in 18.2 overs.

“You advised me to hit for a high score when I was at bat. You entered and altered the beat. I was thinking about a lot of things, “Added he.

After Gill was dismissed, Kohli reached 100 off 85 pitches and maintained his unbroken streak at 166 off 110 pitches. After limiting Sri Lanka to 73 runs in 22 overs, India went on to defeat Sri Lanka by 317 runs.
