You may have to pay extra if you find Apple’s Vision Pro

After years of development, Apple finally unveiled its mixed reality headset at its developer conference earlier this month. It wasn’t just a revelation, some attendees also got a chance to try out the new Apple earphones and while the headphones were a delight, some expressed concerns about its weight and the potential to cause discomfort when worn for long periods of time. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple developed a headband for the Vision Pro after some employees complained that it was too heavy after a few hours of use. The prototype unit tested by multiple users has the same additional Velcro strap not shown by Apple. Obviously headphones can support additional straps if needed, and the first goal is to reduce the pressure of the headset on the wearer’s face and keep the experience light and comfortable. However, the company plans to sell the strap as an optional accessory instead of including it in the box, so the cost will be higher than the $3,499 of the headset. Users may need to purchase additional accessories in addition to this accessory. For those who wear glasses, Zeiss corrective lenses are also a necessity. However, it is still unclear how much these accessories will add to the cost.

What’s Happened Since Apple’s Big Vision Pro Revealed
According to Gurman’s newsletter, Vision Pro has been tested and researched by thousands of people this month, including developers and financial analysts. While currently only senior employees are allowed to bring headphones home, this restriction is expected to be lifted soon. The headset hardware is complete, but work on the software is still ongoing. And to do that, Apple will hire thousands more employees to speed up development. Developers working on Apple’s iOS and iPadOS apps are also starting to work on new versions of VisionOS. During this month’s rollout, Apple only showcased some of its visionOS apps because updated versions of apps like Calendar, Maps, Books, and Mail are still incomplete. In addition, a developer kit for Vision Pro will also be available in July so they can build an ecosystem of third-party apps before the headset hits shelves.
